There are many charming and picturesque towns and villages to see in the province of Pistoia that extends as far as the province of Bologna. First of all the hamlet ot Saturnana, a village of ancient origins which is renowned as tourist and cultural destination, as well as the natural beauty of the area, especially because of the parish church of Saint John the Baptist.
If we continue towards the regional boundary we find Cireglio, locate along one of the most important trans-Apennine itineraries that linked Pistoia with the Padana Plain since the beginning, is nowadays a charming and relaxing summer resort. Once there was the parish church of Saint Panerazio and Saint John once known as the plebs de Brandeglio since the 11th century. It was destroyed the first time in the Middle ages and it was rebuilt with its function. Then it was razed to the ground during the second world war, and then it was rebuilt again as it was. Nearby Cireglio there is the Castle of Cireglio, small defensive settlement which in 1852 gave birth to the famous lexicographer Policarpo Petrocchi.

Another village in the area of Pistoia is Pracchia, a small health resort located in the high valley of the Reno river and an important stop of the Porrettana railroad. It had a tourist increase in the Thirties when a lot of people appreciated its copious amount of water. Regarding the sources of pure water, the Orticaia source is the most known because a refreshing mineral water flows from there.
Starting from Pracchia it is possible to reach Orsigna , an old rural village which nowadays is an enchanting summer resort and the base for numerous and various excursions. Not far from there, by going up a smooth white road which is also open to cars, then along a path in the wood, it is possible to reach the Porta Franca refuge from where it is possible to reach the Scaffaiolo Lake through well signaled paths surrounded by charming and relaxing pastures. In the neighborhood of Orsigna there are some riding centers which offer wonderful ridings through the Apennine environment.
