The municipal district of Sambuca Pistoiese extends
 |
Sambuca Pistoiese |
in the Apennine area which is characterized by the valleys of the rivers Reno, Limentra of Sambuca and Limentrella of Treppio, and its end borders the province of Bologna. The old castles immersed in green still keep their artistic and environmental beauty, which make the area of Sambuca one of the Apennine middle altitude systems of greatest interest. The characteristic layout of the municipal district of Sambuca is at the origin of the history of these lands, which were important in the communication process between North and South. Along these old streets several churches, monasteries, hostels were built in the Middle Ages. Nowadays we have a documented memory of these structures which can also be seen and visited in the area.
The forests of chestnut trees and beech trees together with the numerous sources of pure water, besides being fundamental for the balanced mountain ecosystem, are part of a land whose most precious things are its mountains. It is possible to admire the beauty of the mountains by walking along their fascinating paths.
If we walk through this old village where only 8 people live, we plunge into a fascinating and unique place which makes us live in the round the landscape and natural environment of this splendid municipal district.
The fountains and the wash houses testify the old habits which are still in use in small and hidden villages. We recommend a visit to the Pozzo of Torraccia (Well of Torraccia), in Casa Gori, the lavatoio of Serradivoli (the wash house of Serradivoli) established in 1878 and the old wash house of the nuns under the convent of La Madonna del Glglio ( the Virgin of the lily) which takes its water from the living rock on the mountain.
